Whose Before Who

Exploring the profound impact of confidence and self-assurance on our relationships, it becomes clear that a deep and meaningful connection with God is pivotal in shaping these bonds. Today's post delves into the wisdom of Matt Kahn, Coach Sherman Smith, and James 4:8, emphasizing the transformative power of embracing our connection with our creator. Doing so gives us a holistic understanding of ourselves and others, fostering deep and meaningful relationships.

Matt Kahn said, "People can only meet you as deeply as they've met themselves," highlighting the importance of self-awareness and authenticity in our connections. By growing an intimate relationship with God, we gain a deeper understanding of ourselves, enabling us to approach relationships with vulnerability and genuine openness, embracing our strengths and acknowledging our weaknesses.

Recognizing the significance of self-discovery, we understand that "You have to know whose you are before you can know who you are," as Coach Sherman Smith once shared. This quote illuminates the importance of recognizing our identity in God before fully understanding our character and capabilities. When we have a deep relationship with God, we realize we are His beloved children, created with purpose and worth. This understanding grants us confidence and security, enabling us to build connections based on mutual respect and genuine empathy.

"Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you" (James 4:8). When we draw near to God, we open ourselves up to His guidance, wisdom, and love. Deepening our relationship with Him, we become more attuned to His heart and desires for us. This, in turn, shapes our character, instilling qualities such as humility, compassion, and a desire to serve others. Our connection with God becomes a wellspring of love and grace that overflows into our relationships, enabling us to love and serve others selflessly.

If you've taken anything from today's post, please understand that a deep and meaningful relationship with God is the bedrock for building genuine connections with others. It empowers us to be authentic and vulnerable, inviting others to meet us at a deeper level. Recognizing our identity in God establishes a firm foundation of worth and security, fostering relationships rooted in mutual respect and genuine care. As we draw closer to God, He molds our character, equipping us with the qualities needed to love, serve, and connect with others in profound and meaningful ways.
